Pictured Wildflower: Horsemint Monarda fistulosa menthifolia
Wildflower Field notes: Horsemint or Beebalm is quite common at lower elevations. It prefers sunny areas such as hillsides and the edges of roads. Horsemints minty aroma helps to identify the plant. Horsemint is very drought tolerant... I watched this plant wilt for a week while waiting for some rain before I took its picture. The rain never came.

This native Monarda is an excellent choice for the xerisacpe or wildflower garden.
