The Bed: Add a fresh layer of rich compost to the top soil, then till or spade the bed to loosen the soil and work in the compost. Rake level.

How to Grow: "Spinach" can be planted 4 - 6 weeks before last frost. It tolerates cool weather well. Plant seed 1/2" deep spaced 1" apart. Rows should be 18" to 24" apart.

In six weeks, thin Spinach plants to 12" - 16" apart. Keep the soil moist but not soggy until the seeds germinate.
