"Blue Lake" is a green bush bean by Ferry Morse seed. It has excellent flavor producing 6" to 7" pods. A 10 foot row of bush beans can produce approximately 10 pounds of beans. Bush beans grow quicker than pole beans, providing an earlier harvest.

The Bed: Add a fresh layer of rich compost to the top soil, then till or spade the bed to loosen the soil and work in the compost. Rake level.

How to Grow: Bush beans grow best in fertile, well drained soil in full sun. Do not pre-soak the seed. Plant seed after all danger of frost has passed 1" - 2" deep, spaced 4" to 6" apart. Rows should be 18" - 24" apart.

Keep the soil moist but not soggy until the seeds germinate. After germination water as need. Don't use high nitrogen fertilizers on beans as it will reduce the yield. A second crop could be planted two weeks later.

Harvesting: Pick bush beans as soon as the pods are between 4" to 7" in length while the beans inside are still small.

Available Hybrids - Cultivars: All from Ferry Morse. Bush Romano 56 days,, Contender 55 days, Daytona 54 days, Delinel 56 days, Derby 53 days,  and Gator Green 53 days.
