Salad Bowl is a leaf lettuce by Ferry Morse Seed. It has won national awards because of its quality. The crisp, tender, frilly green leaves are slow to go to seed.

The Bed: Add a fresh layer of rich compost to the top soil, then till or spade the bed to loosen the soil and work in the compost. Rake level.

How to Grow: Lettuce can be planted 4 - 5 weeks before last frost. Plant seed 1/8" deep, 1" apart. Rows should be 12" - 18" apart depending on if leaf or head lettuce is planted. Thin leaf lettuce seedlings to 6" and head lettuce seedlings to 10" apart.

Keep the soil moist but not soggy. After germination, water as needed. Successive crops can be planted two weeks apart for the entire growing season.

Harvesting: Leaf lettuce can be harvested any time before the plants go to seed. Head lettuce should be harvested when the heads are firm.

Available Hybrids - Cultivars: All from Ferry Morse. Bib 57 days, Black Seeded Simpson 45 days, Grand Rapids, 45 days, Great Lakes 82 days, Mesclun Bon Vivant Mix 40 - 60 days, and Parris Island 68 days.
