The Bed: Add a fresh layer of rich compost to the top soil, then till or spade the bed to loosen the soil and work in the compost. Rake level.

How to Grow: "Turnips" can be planted 3 to 5 weeks before last frost. Plant seed 1/4" to 1/2" deep, spaced 1" or less apart. Rows should be 10" to 12" apart.  Thin Turnip seedlings to 4" to 6" apart. Keep the soil moist but not soggy until the seed germinates. After germination water as needed to keep the soil moist.
