"Shallots" are a member of the Onion family that usually grown from bulbs that can be purchased at your local Garden Center. Their very easy to grow and require little in the way of care.

The Bed: Add a fresh layer of rich compost to the top soil, then till or spade the bed to loosen the soil and work in the compost. Rake level.

How to Grow: "Shallot" bulbs can be planted in the spring or in fall. For spring planting... plant sets 4 to 6 weeks before last frost. Divide the cloves down to individual bulbs. Push each bulb into the soil so that the top is even or just below the surface of the soil. Space the bulbs 6" to 8" apart, in rows spaced 12" to 18" apart. Water as needed to keep the soil moist.

Harvesting: Shallots are ready to harvest when the tops yellow and die back. To harvest Scallions cut the tops from fall bulbs in early spring.

Available Hybrids - Cultivars: Seed: Atlas 90 days, and Creation 105 days. Bulbs: Golden Gourmet 77 days
