Perennial
Cultivation: Once established this easy to grow
perennial will begin flowering in late spring and bloom for most
of the summer providing the area is not to shady. Spent flower
heads should be removed from the plant. Bear's Breach is
marginally hardy and should be heavily mulched a the end of the
growing season.
Bear's Breech prefers rich, moist, well drained fertile soil, but
will grow in most soil types in partial sun. It dislikes having a wet
root zone while dormant. Under ideal growing conditions
Bear's Breech can become invasive choking our neighboring plants.
Propagation: By seed or dividing the plant in spring.
Starting Bear's Breach from seed is incredibly slow. We recommend
purchasing pre-started plants at your local garden center or
greenhouse. Space new
container grown plants 18" - 20" apart.
Potential pests ~ diseases: Fungal and bacterial leaf spots could
be a problem if the plant is kept to wet. Watch for powdery
mildew.
In Latin the word mollis means "soft"... referring to the
soft furry foliage of "Bear's Breech".
