| Perennial
Cultivation:
Similar in look, but smaller than its cousin the "Swamp
Milkweed".
Butterfly Milkweed was named after the Green god
of medicine... Asklepios.
Plant Butterfly Milkweed in full sun in well drained fertile soil.
Tolerates most soil types and is quite drought tolerant.. Space new
container grown plants 8" - 10" apart. Both the
flowers and ripe seed pods are useful for floral arrangements. As
its name inclines... "Butterfly Milkweed" will attract
butterflies.
Do not over water young or dormant plants.
Propagation:
Seed can be germinated in a cold frame in the early spring,
or purchase pre-started plants at your local Garden Center. Once
established Asclepias tuberosa is difficult to transplant.
Potential pests ~ diseases:
Aphids or mealy bugs when flowering.
