Perennial Cultivation: Columbine Blue Bird is the hybrid version of the Rocky Mountain Columbine which is native to the Colorado Rockies. It is from the Songbird series of Columbine. Blue Bird grows much taller than the native variety producing an abundance of beautiful blue and white flowers during mid spring with some flowers lingering until mid summer. Butterflies and Bees are attracted to the large flowers.

Plant Columbine Blue Bird in full sun to partial shade in fertile, moist well drained loose soil. Shade from mid day heat is beneficial. Several varieties of Columbine are self seeders. The following spring you should have several new volunteer plants that can easily be transplanted to a different flower bed.

Propagation:
Columbine Bluebird can easily be grown from seed. For quicker growth purchase pre-started plants at your local Garden Center. Space new container grown plants 12" - 18" apart. Columbine are a bit difficult to divide as the plants roots dislike being disturbed once established.

Potential pests ~ diseases: Aphids or powdery mildew.
