General Cut Flower Care: Keep the water in the vase of your Scabiosa fresh. Replace the water every 3rd day with cold water keeping the water level near the top of the vase.

Re-cut 1/2" from the base of each Scabiosa stem under water using a sharp knife with each water change. Remove any foliage that may become submerged after re-cutting.

Variety note: There are two varieties of Scabiosa that is commonly used in the floral industry, a perennial Scabiosa and an annual Scabiosa. Perennial Scabiosa or Scabiosa caucasica is usually short measuring 12" to 14" in length with 10 stems to the bunch. Scabiosa caucasica is winter hardy in Colorado and can be grown in flower gardens.

Scabiosa altropurpurea is an annual Scabiosa called Pincushion Scabiosa.

Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or FloraLife to the vase that contains your Scabiosa with each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent bacteria growth, aids in keeping vase water clear,  and feeds your flowers and foliages insuring a longer vase life.

If you run out of commercial flower preservative you can make your own fresh cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
