Floral Greens Care: Keep the water in the vase of your
Common Long Myrtle
fresh. Replace the water every 3 days with cold water keeping
the water level near the top of the vase.
Re-cut 1/2" from
the base of each stem under water using a sharp knife
with each water change. Remove any Myrtle foliage that may become
submerged after re-cutting.
Variety note: Common Long Myrtle
is grown as a hedge or topiary tree in temperate regions of the
world. In
the floral trade its used as a durable vertical filler green. The stiff woody
branches of Myrtle make it easy to work with. Myrtle has a bit of
a lemony scent when the stems are cut. Common Long Myrtle bunches are quite long
measuring around 36" and containing 10 or more stems.
Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or
FloraLife to the vase that contains your Long Myrtle with
each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent bacterial
growth and feeds the foliage helping to insure a longer vase life.
If you run out of commercial flower preservative you can
make your own fresh cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a
quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
