Cut Flower Care: Keep the water in the vase of your Liatris
fresh. Replace the water every 3rd day with fresh cold water keeping
the water level near the top of the vase. Re-cut 1/2" from
the base of each stem under water using a sharp knife
with each water change. Remove the long narrow leaved of
Liatris if they will submerged in water.
Variety note: Liatrus is very unique
in that the top of the stem blooms first, and
then in a downward succession to the bottom of the stem. Liatris
bunches are usually quite long measuring 36" or more. Liatrus is
available in purple and on very rare occasion in white. Blazing Star
Liatris is sold in 10 stem bunches.
Liatrus spicata is zone 4 hardy and can be grown ornamentally in your
flower garden.
Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or
FloraLife to the vase that contains your Liatris with
each water change. Floral preservative helps to prevent bacterial
growth and feeds your flowers insuring a longer vase life.
If you run out of commercial flower preservative you can
make your own fresh cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a
quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
