General Floral Greens Care: Leather Leaf Fern is one of the most commonly seen floral greens used in the industry. Keep the water in the vase fresh. Replace the water every 3rd day with cold water keeping the water level near the top of the vase. Re-cut 1/2" from the base of each Leather Leaf Fern stem under water using a sharp knife with each water change. Remove any foliage that may become submerged after re-cutting to help avoid bacterial growth.

Variety note: Leather Leaf Fer" is a flat triangular shaped fern that is widely used as a filler green and sold with 10 or more stems per bunch. Rumohra adiantiformis has many common names including Baker Fern, Iron Fern, and Seven Week Fern. Within the floral trade there are three types of Leather Leaf Fern available. Leather Leaf is the most economical (pictured) , Premium Leather Leaf which is a bit larger and higher quality, and Fancy Fern which has smaller lacey leaves.

Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or FloraLife when using Leather Leaf Fern with each water change to help prevent bacteria growth and to feed your flowers and greens.

If you run out of commercial flower preservative you can make your own fresh cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a quart of cold water... mixing thoroughly.
