Anthuriums
have a colorful spadix which adds much interest to the flower. The
spadix is the growth that protrudes from the center of the leaf.
Their a great gift idea for Valentine's Day as the flower is
heart shaped and can last up to 3 weeks. Anthuriums are usually
sold by the stem with stem lengths and head sizes varying by variety.
The Anthurium family is quite large containing over 600
varieties of plants that are used as house plants and cut flowers.
Anthuriums are quite hardy. They'll usually look great long after
the other fresh flowers have perished. To get the most from your
Anthurium... submerge the entire blossom in cool water for 15
minutes daily, then return it to the arrangement.
Common names include; Little Boy Flower, Flamingo Flower and
Flowering Anthurium and Tail Flower.
Add a commercial floral preservative such as AquaPlus or
FloraLife to the vase that contains your Anthurium with each water
change. Floral preservative helps to prevent bacteria growth
and feeds your exotic tropical flowers insuring a longer vase life.
To make your
own cut flower food mix 1/2 teaspoon of table sugar to a quart of
cold water... mixing thoroughly.
