information: As with Tulips there are hundreds of
Narcissus available for outdoor flower beds. For pot forcing the
only miniature variety that you'll find is Narcissus
Tete-a-tete. They are available at your local Colorado Garden Center
or Floral Shop from January thru March.
Tete-a-tete is a beautiful dwarf form of Narcissus that's
usually 6" to 10" tall. Each stem will bear 1 to 3
bright yellow flowers with as many as 20 flowers per pot.
When selecting a Tete-a-tete look for a pot with several plants in the container. The plants should have firm, fairly
straight, dark green stems. It's ok to buy a plant with open
flowers because this miniature Narcissus produces so many.
Once you get your new Tete-a-tete home place it in bright
indirect light away from heat sources, such as TV's or heat ducts.
Heat will speed up the natural flowering process shortening the
life span of your plant. Tete-a-tete are usually potted in a sandy
soil which provides excellent drainage for your plant. Be sure
to set your plant in a saucer or drip tray to catch the water that
will surley run out. Water your plant every couple of days.
Fertilizing is not necessary. Once your Tete-a-tete has finished
flowering recycle it in your compost pile and replace it with a new flowering plant.
Forced bulbs
will not re-flower if planted outdoors.
